TABCO Rally at the Board of Education

TABCO Rally at the Board of Education

"TABCO members,

We have seen and read Dr. Rogers’ email from this morning.

In the fall of 2023, we bargained for and won an average 5% increase for next school year and another average 5% increase for the 2026-27 school year. The new terms outlined in this morning’s email would lead to a significant reduction to those agreements.

While we appreciate BCPS’s ongoing efforts to address their budget challenges, we want to make it clear: what Dr. Rogers has proposed is a 2.3% reduction to our increases, from 5% to 2.7% for both next school year and the school year after. This also means you will work from July to January without a pay increase for the next two years. Further, there will not be a lump sum to correct this underpayment. Over the next two school years that is a loss of 4.6% total value, or up to thousands of dollars for each of us. At a time of rising costs to make ends meet and persistent staff shortages, we should be doing all that we can to support Baltimore County educators and make this a viable, well-compensated profession for all of us.

We know that recruitment and retention are student centered issues. We know the impact of high quality educators on student success. When we fight for what we’ve been promised, we do so to keep our veteran educators, to keep our early and mid-career educators, and to continue to compete for new educators to come here- all to make Baltimore County a world class school system for our students.

We won’t stop working to keep what we’ve been promised—for our students, for our communities, and for all of us. We need you all at the Board of Ed Rally on June 10th from 5:30 to 7:30."
